About Me

Hello, my name is Rajdeep Chokar, I am a junior at the University of Washington and currently a Psychology major pursuing a minor in the Professional Sales program.

This portfolio is a compilation of my leadership and learning experiences thus far as a UW student. It incorporates both my Husky Leadership Certificate and interdisciplinary experiences and reflections.

One of the leadership qualities that I have come to embody in my time at the UW is holding a diverse perspective. Having a diverse perspective is seeing all sides of an issue and how it affects every individual member and part of the situation at hand. I have had the opportunity to grow up in a third-world country and see the many benefits of living in a country like the United States. In the past few years, I have worked with diverse individuals on campus and in the Seattle community. Conversing and working hand in hand with these individuals has opened up my eyes to how multicultural and distinct Seattle really is.

Another leadership quality I have gained is being an educator and mentor in one. For the past two years, I have put in over 600 hours working with incoming freshmen at the UW and low-income preschoolers in the Seattle community. I have always been a firm believer in volunteering for causes that you feel most passionate about. In the past, I have seen too many people waste away countless hours doing things for a cause they do not care about. Going into a volunteer activity, I not only look at what I can do for the cause but what I can also take away for myself whether this is a sense of joy or a new skill learned.

During my time at UW, I have also come to be a proactive scholar. Embodying this identity has been difficult as I first came to UW as a shy individual. I knew I had to make the most of my classroom experience and get out of my comfort zone in order to do this. The classes I have taken at the UW have given me skills to last a lifetime and the language abilities I gained have been worth all the time and effort. Along with making the most out of the classroom experience, I have also made close friendships that have only furthered me in my scholastic pursuit. With time, I have blossomed as I have become involved in the classroom setting.

I look forward to building more leadership qualities in my upcoming time at the UW. At the moment, I am looking towards pursuing a career in either marketing or sales as I would like to get my MA in Industrial-Organizational Psychology in the upcoming future. In order to get closer to these career goals, I will be embarking on a study abroad internship this summer that will help me gain marketing and psychology-related skills. These skills will only make me more confident in the career choices that I am looking at. Next year I will complete the Professional Sales Minor and gain numerous leadership qualities from the experiences. I look forward to gaining professional business skills that help me become a more effective leader. I want to make the most out of the time that I have left at the UW and I look towards making my senior year the best year.
